WWE Star & Mike Tyson’s Ex-Bodyguard Found Dead – The Ex-WWE star went missing on Sunday afternoon while swimming with his ten-year-old son at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
Former WWE wrestler Shad Gaspard’s body was found on Wednesday morning after he went missing while swimming with his son at Venice Beach over the weekend, as per police reports.
An unamed person at the beach located the body along the shoreline around 1:25 a.m., according to the LA Police Department.
A detective with the coroner’s office confirmed it was indeed Gaspard’s body, and the wrestler’s family were notified soon after by the police.
In a press release on Wednesday, the WWE said it was saddened to learn about Gaspard’s untimely death and “extends its condolences to his family, friends and fans.”
Gaspard who was just 39 years of age, went missing Sunday afternoon while swimming with his 10-year-old son at Venice Beach in Los Angeles.
He was about fifty yards from the shore when a lifeguard saw that a “wave had crashed over Mr. Shad Gaspard and he was sucked out deeper into the sea,” the LAPD said in a statement on Tuesday.
Gaspard’s son was found after the incident and did not require any medical attention.
Chief Ken Haskett, with the fire department’s Lifeguard Department, informed NBC News that the lifeguard did all he could to pull Gaspard and his son to safety.
“He was trying to rescue both,” he said. “But the father, in his final few words, said, ‘Save my son.’ “
Gaspard pushed his son towards the lifeguard, before “he got thrown back down under a wave, and that’s the last he’s been seen,” Haskett said.
Shad Gaspard was part of the Cryme Tyme team in the WWE and, since he retired from wrestling, he has pursued an career in acting, according to NBC Los Angeles.
He has appeared in the movies “Think Like A Man Too” and “Get Hard”, and the television shows “Key and Peele and “Big Time Rush”, among others.
Before joining the WWE, Gaspard represented Georgia Perimeter College as a basketball player and was a bodyguard for Mike Tyson, Britney Spears and Sean “Diddy” Combs, the wrestling organization said in a statement. He is also beleived to have created his own graphic novel.
Siliana Gaspard, Gaspard’s wife released a statement on Tuesday calling him a fighter with a “magical soul.”
“We are praying and hoping for his safe return. As a family we thank all of you who are concerned and have wished him well. Please continue to keep sending your positivity & prayers to our beloved Shad,” she wrote on Instagram.
